Id like to get some opinions here from people who have already tried this...... I already purchased 10 domains for my particular niche, each one having the keyword I want to rank for in them. Am I better off using each individual domain for each keyword or just using all my keywords for my main domain? Example- Keywords: baseball caps, baseball shirts, baseball gloves URL setup- baseball caps --> mybaseballcaps.com baseball shirts --> baseballshirtsnow.com etc. OR have all keywords (baseball caps, baseball shirts, baseball gloves) point to the same MAIN domain --> baseballstuff.com Essentially...am I better off ranking many keywords for many domains (keywords in them) or running all that link juice to just one single domain, regardless if the keywords are prevalent in them? BTW, this should go without saying, but each domain is being forwarded to the main domain.
This is actually the basic step of SEO. The major people don't think about this. They are purchasing the domain as per their company name. Definitely the keyword in domain name is always giving a mileage for SEO.
The technique you discussed was working fine in old days and gave excellent result for my various clients but recent updates says that keyword usage in domain name will not give more weight in organic rankings. What i suggest is: - Going for very short and theme based name which is easy to remember. - Give effort for optimizing your brand for all keywords by categorize different section on your main domain itself and promote each section for targeted keywords. I hope it will help..
I don't think it is more beneficial these days...refer this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAWFv43qubI
Thank you all for the response and for the video seojig, but I don't think you understand my question above. I wasn't asking if having keywords in my domain was beneficial in SEO, I already know that it is. I wanted to know which setup was better! Example- Keywords: baseball caps, baseball shirts, baseball gloves URL setup- baseball caps --> mybaseballcaps.com baseball shirts --> baseballshirtsnow.com etc. OR have all keywords (baseball caps, baseball shirts, baseball gloves) point to the same MAIN domain --> baseballstuff.com So do I have all my link juice go to one domain (main domain that doesn't have too many keywords in it) OR have each keyword I am optimizing point to the domain WITH keywords in it (these domains would obviously forward to my main domain)?
It seems that you have to make competitor analysis for the same niche, if you found your competitor strong enough with high number of pages and numerous inbound links to the website than make sure separating with different keywords may require you to input some extra work also the work will get divided between the keywords so I suggest you to concentrate on main domain and let other domain point to the same main domain.
Thats actually not a bad idea Balaji. Post a little content on each of the other domains and have them all linking back to my main domain would work nicely!
Here i would suggest to going for second option : have all keywords (baseball caps, baseball shirts, baseball gloves) point to the same MAIN domain --> baseballstuff.com Here you should create section for each offering like: baseballstuff.com/baseball-caps, baseballstuff.com/baseball-shirts etc.. I have worked on basketball uniform website and it works fine with them...
I would suggest that you do both! If you can build up credibility with a main domain then when you want to expand your site it will already have a bit of authority with it. So I would suggest that you have a main page that you optimize for multiple keywords and then use the individual domains to point back to your main URL
This technique will work well if you have time and energy to promote multiple domains i would suggest to give full energy on one domain by optimizing the same for multiple keywords. this will help more for long run in terms of branding and authority as well as in managing resource and websites.
