SEO for Keyword Domains

    Hi all,

I have got a little question for SEO pros. I do know much about SEO, but I am stuck at this end.

This week, I am going to launch a website which has an exact keyword domain (let's say: seoforums dot com).

So the thing I would like to know is, what SEO strategy should I adopt before and after launching the site?

It might seem a little foolish thing to ask but the reason for asking is that 2 months back, I launched a website with an exact keyword domain and it didn't appear on that keyword even if I type the main URL (after it was cached by Google). I never did any link building for that site though but the domain suddenly appeared after staying hidden for weeks.

I hope you get the point. Help from professionals will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Start by adding a few articles to your website first and then slowly start to link from different places to those articles. The thing you might have had is that your website was in the sandbox previously. Although do some good linkbuilding and create quality content for your visitors ;)

    Thanks for the input @Aquarezz.

I will surely add content to my site before launching it. Regarding your response, please let me know few things:

    1. What link building strategy should I adopt? Should I start link building (getting 10-20 links daily) prior to launching my website? Is it O.K. or would it look SPAMMY?
    2. In link building, what method should I go for at the beginning (like article marketing, web 2.0 articles, blog comments or etc.)?

    Thanks

You should see it the way Google sees it. How would it be more natural, having 15 new backlinks daily or starting with 3-4 backlinks first day, 5 backlinks the day after, 8 the day after etc. So start with just a few links (not many) and make sure the number grows. At a certain point you should keep building the same amount of links as when you're at that point, visitors should also start linking from other places to your website.

I don't really like blog comments, article directories etc. Google knows that those are mostly used just for backlink building. Like I already said, is that natural? No, that's a webmaster building backlinks. To make it look natural, try to do guest posts or try to do some posts on websites so it looks natural. In my opinion forum links (in posts) still have a lot of weight. I don't know if it is like this, but if I would be Google I'd give more weight to a link after the first reply than a link in the first reply -- because links after the 'question' or something is mostly a suggestion, which is a visitor's pick ;)

I agree with Aquarezz, Google wants to see a "natural" link building profile. As for myself, I've always started with a handful of decent articles (5-10) and dripped them into the site over the first couple of weeks. I'll submit to article sites and maybe do some social bookmarking as well before I really get into link building. I think this appears to be a more natural type of site growth and doesn't throw up any red flags. Since you have the keyword in the url you can get some decent SEO by optimizing your other on-page factors as well in the first couple of days (and every time you publish an article).
