Based on your inputs, I assume that you are already a Publisher (approved). If not kindly be specific else there may be irrelevant suggestion to your post. Considering you as an approved Publisher, let's discuss how we can make most of our news. Are we using schema or structured data in our posts? Are our articles as per the general, quality & technical guidelines of Google News? What is the average length of our posts? Have we integrated G+ Publisher rel tag? These above questions are suggestion too. Now moving to SEO practices of the domain. Work on URL targeting Firstly target your Home page with naked urls, brand name etc. Secondly target your news sections i.e. Business, sports, crime with keyword like - latest news from business industry (this serves two purpose - long tail keyword & semantic search based link building) Create a brand page on suggested social media sites advised on this forum & other web references.(I believe you already have done it) - get into communities and don't hesitate to post or share.
