SEO for blogs?

I have a wordpress blog, I've set up a couple of SEO Plugins.
The site has meta keywords and stuff like that.

What's the most important onpage SEO I need to do?

And what, other than link building, off-site SEO do I need to do?

For wordpress, off the top of my head -

Change the way the title tags work.
Change the archives. By default they're pretty bad & lots of duplicate content.
Trim down the meta tags and some unnecessary single page code.
Use lots of tags. Even better if you make tag archive pages.
A sitemap page that directly links every post is sometimes nice, or mini ones for each category. Easily done with a template tag.
Use the "more" in your longer posts. Cuts down on duplicate content.

the best SEO plug-in for Wordpress is all-in-one seo.

The most important onpage SEO that you need to do is optimize the " META TITLE" "DESCRIPTION" and "KEYOWRDS".

If you do offsite you need to build quality links fro your site

Link building is the part of off-page SEO. For that you need to perform

    1. Active forum participation
    2. Article submission
    3. Social bookmarking etc

All-In-One Seo plugin is the best so far to get meta, keyword and description. I suggest you to use that.

    Next is link building.

Do some blog commenting on dofollow blogs.
You will be amazed on the results you get on next PR update.

Thank you, that's what I'm starting now.
It'd be helpfull if there was an internal PR checker that worked though lol.

Just wondering, do I set a keyword as my name (anchor text) in blog posting, or can I just use my name so my comments don't get deleted.

You can do both.. If you can see some approved comments with with keywords you can do the same. If you cannot see keywords as title you better use your name.

I never tried creating a blog or a site in wordpress yet.
But I do promoted one and the thing that I have realized
    was

    - the meta title, description, and keywords (just like the ordinary on page optimization)
    - easy navigation of images and editing the page (more features)

in off page: ( promotion for the site or blog)

    - press release and article is good
    - link exchange
    - social bookmarking
    - forums
