SEO for a .edu site...

    Hi,

I'm working on a .edu domain site - and they want to rank No.1 for their domain name.

How would you do it for a college -- same way as usual? directory submissions etc?

Get links from other edu sites.

Will the edu domain help in the SEO anyway?

    Cheers for help and advice.

You'd be very unlucky to not rank no 1 for your own domain name. It should take very little to do that. If they can get links from other .edu sites, as they are an educational site themselves, then that's a good route to take.

Your .edu domain won't really help you get rankings. It normally is fairly easy to get rankings for a high quality website though. Just work at building lots of links using a variety of link anchor texts. If the website has been up for a long time, they should have a strong link base already just from students & faculty linking to the website.

There is something very worng if you cannot rank first for your domain name in the SERPS's......all they will need is a few weeks of SEO to accomplish this.
