Hey, I have been working on a corporate site for quite a time now. The site is 5 yrs old, and not developed by me. I am just doing the changes from the past 3-4 months. I see that the site was heavy on images. I know a few basic things about SEO like... I added alt tags with relevant image names to all the images. There were many words repeating in the keywords of the page, I removed that a bit. Decreasing the loading time of the site by using as much text as possible. The site has good content related about its business and product line. Generating sitemap and added to google. Submitted to few free search engines. Added to Google Webmasters, to know the current status of keywords and traffic. Added Analytics to have a stat of visitors. Now, what next. The clients main aim is to generate visitors for the site. I said, for that we first need the set of keywords for which you want your site ranking to be high. But the since, you can't expect much from a client I have to do all the research work. This is the first time that I would be doing any kind of SEO activity for a website. And what better way then to learn from the members here. So guys, can you please help me, as to how to go about this. Keyword Research, Targetting Keywords, Submitting to Google n all.. Thanks a lot in advance!
Make sure the Meta Tags and the H1 - H3 are keyword optimized, these things have a huge weight with Search Engine crawlers. You obviously understand the importance of Content so keep it up. Unique and quality content takes precedence over the quantity of keywords you can have. Build relevant and quality backlinks from forum and blog posting and commenting. Write and submit quality and keyword rich articles. However remember that there must be a good balance between keywords and content and the keywords must be used in well structured sentences that convey a message! Do some social bookmarking! These are the more common and important things in On-Page and Off-Page SEO.

- check your meta tags and make sure they contain keywords - especially your page titles. each page should have it's own unique meta tags. - place a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file for concatenation - start link building using press releases, article marketing, social bookmarking, blog commenting, etc. with keywords for anchor text - use firebug and page speed plug-ins for firefox to determine other page load efficiency techniques i have heard that if you have a large corporate company that setting all the computer stations to have their site as the home page for the browser can help SEO because it inflates traffic, returning visitors, etc. but personally I'm not sure hope this helps
