SEO :: Few questions

    Hi Guys, I just wanted to ask you few questions on SEO ang Google page ranking.

    1. I have just made my site few weeks back and the cPanel is showing that Googlebot has visited the site on 28th of Aug. but still my site is not being shown on google ? when will it be ?

    2. I have one friend who has few sites and I am looking to ask him to put my link on his site. he is having a PR of 3 I think where as I have a PR of 0 :) so which is the best way to share links ? shud I put his links on my site or not ? he has some 4-5 sites

    3. Can you give me a rough idea how many back links do I need to have a pr of 3-4 ?

    4. what kind of links help u more ? those which only direct at you or those which point at you and you also have a link which point at them.

    The usual sequence for a new site is that Googlebot makes an intial visit (or 2 or 3) but does not completely spider the site. Then it indexes the home page. Then eventually it comes back and does a "deep crawl" to add more pages from the site to its index.

    If you expect him to link to you, you should be willing to link to him. Are those sites at all relevant to yours? Will the content of those sites have any interest to people visiting your site? If not, personally I'd suggest you find another link partner.

    There are a few places around the net where you can obtain estimates of this. IMO, they are more of academic interest than any real practical use. There is a lot more to ranking well than simple PR.

    It makes no difference. It is the links pointing to you that matter. However, as I said above, some webmasters will not link to you unless you either pay for the privilege in some way or link back to them.

    Other suggestions:

    1. submit your site to relevant directories
    2. think about joining the DP Coop

    by the way minstrel since you are still online so can you do a favoor to me, I am building this site allwebhosts.com.ru , and can you tell me how it is ? I mean is it good or poor ? or what changes you want to make it better so that it attract more traffic (I have started a thread on it in html section as well) :)

    a very good way to get free links is to place artikels with links to your site. or you can use blogs.
