SEO Experiments

I'm looking to run several SEO experiments to test various factors that may or may not affect SEO and rankings.
I've one similar experiments in the past such as checking to see if search engines read an _ in the URL as a space or ignore it? (They ignore it by the way)

I'm looking to expand on this. I have some ideas as to what other factors I'd like to test, though I'd welcome any ideas, requests or suggestions. These can be on or off page factors, or anything SEO or marketing related.

I am currently running a test domain, which does not exist in world wide web, even the word too does not exist. What i did uploaded a page with 1000 words which explains what is the meaning of the word. i am not using any SEO tactics neither i am adding any other link to site.

Like to see how SE's behaving on that domain. This test is something similar to Nigritude Ultramarine saga if you remember, but i not running any contest. The site is not yet indexed as well as till date no reference of the word found over the net.

If you like to join this test on your own domain, PM me for informnation :)

How about test one of the article submission services on DP vs. a comparable directory submission service to see which is more effective?

I'm sure I'll be chiming in with more :)...

for article marketing purposes, submit two or three seperate articles on the same subject and keyword, one to ezinearticles, one to GoArticles, and one to my site in my sig, and see which one ranks the others for the keyword.

Just a suggestion. I would do it myself, but waay to busy lately.

currently i am facing a failure in optimizing my one webpage ... according to rational data what i need to do i have already done. like

    1) getting backlinks for high pr webpages (permanent)
    2) all are from closely relevant topic webpages
    3) onpage optimization is carefully done (title, meta tags...)

My competitor in serp is webpage of medium quality (pr5) and holds <200 backlinks and i have more than 200 inbound links now .. my ibl are carefully collected just for the purpose of beating that competitor.

i analyzed competitor's webpage with my own written nichewatch and backlinkwatch (yet to launch for public) tools.

Now problem is that my competitor webpage is from very powerful domain that is very popular and holds PR8 (main) and millions of inbound links (main in yahoo).

Technically i should rank better ( i am waiting for more than 4 months) because my webpage is stronger than my competitor webpage.

But i don't know when it will happen or it will happen or not.

In short ... i want to ask what seo experiment results show about this situation ?
How much weightage is given to main domain power ?

    search engine : Google only.

Matt, also please test only link exchange and how it works comparing to one-way, I mean don't go for one-way links only (like good dirs, buying links, etc.).

Siptech, that sounds interesting, I've sent you a PM. :)

Carlito - sounds interesting, I'm not really interested in testing various services at this stage, rather methods and theories. To effectively test both I'd have to do the submissions myself in order to ensure all variables were the same, such a link page PR and number of ourgoing links, I'm not sure I'd have that amount of control otherwise.

Caydel, that's a possability, having a think about different variables now.

Mong, do you mean your competitor is on a subdomain/subfolder?

SEOLinker, that is one of the factors that I've already got lined up to test, I'd value anyones opinions on the best way to do this. I have to be carfull that in the test I keep all other factors the same and only the testing variable changes.

In the next couple of days I'll set-up a page on my site with the experiments that I've set up, the method and the outcome that I expect to see. Once the experiment is completed I'll post the results and data. I have to be carful with posting links to the actual experimejnt as these links will influence the results.

No its just webpage in main folder.

Thanks Siptech, I've had a quick read but I need to do though it in detail, I'll get back to you ASAP.

Just to let you know I've set up a section on my site for the tests to be explained and for me to post the results as they occur - SEO Testing
