SEO effect of image names, plus alt and title tag spam filters

    I am wondering if taking the time and effort to change the names if images from things like cart.gif to keyword-keyword-car.gif would have any significant SEO benefits. The changes would not visibly appear on the page but would appear in the source code.
    I am also wondering about the Alt and title tags for images and title tags for links, can they play a significant role in increasing my sites search engine ranking and should I worry about spam filters if I repeat my keywords in each of the tags?

    image name alone will not help you, but try to optimize alt atributes.

    i think it helps abit, my own personal blog which I've never used alt tags often get hits from images.google for certain pictures/photos
