SEO - Easier than we make it?

I am about 7 or so months into blogging and have obviously been researching SEO for about half of that time once I discovered it. Is SEO really easier than we're all making it?

    Use your title tags properly.
    Use your heading tags properly.
    Link within your site's articles.
    Gain incoming links.
Always fill in alt image tags.

Blah blah blah the list goes on. The only thing that I truly don't think I fully understand is keyword density. Is there really anything else we need to know about SEO? I mean, to be completely honest, is there just that much we need to know?

Like I said, I am kind of a noob when it comes to this, but what am I missing?

Like almost everything else in life 20% of the effort will get you 80% of the way there in SEO. Simple things like you mentioned will do everything you need for most mildly competitive keywords. You might need to dig deeper for very competitive terms.

Here's my short list of 6 things that do 80% of the job.

    Keywords in Title
    Variation of Keywords in Description
Variation of Keywords in H1 tag
Variation(s) of Keywords in Page Text
Get related back links with keywords as link text
Get more related back links with keywords as link text

Great list also it seem (lately) that "social bookmarking" has an SEO effect!

social bookmarking does have an SEO effect but of course like anything given enough time, greatly discounted.

Article syndication and press releases can really help as well.

Just think, what is google looking for?

    Great content?
    Accurate descriptions?
Keywords in the title, tags, and body?
    Links to great related sources?
    Incoming links from quality sites?

Yup, thats the right way to think. You might also want to develop your site in a way that makes it very easy for google to find the content you want, etc.

Everyone wants to make smart decisions when they start out and SEO seems to be the smartest way to go. This is definitely a good decision; however there is one problem many marketers share. We tend to focus so much on the technical side of SEO we forget that traffic is #1. It's the other options that help us maximize our the traffic we drive to our websites.

PPC or pay per click is reliable but I always recommend free methods first. The best and most reliable way to drive traffic to your website is article marketing.

By writing articles that focus on your target market you can change your traffic results almost overnight. You’ll want to be sure to add your website and blog links to your article’s resource box and the rest is up to gravity.

My second tip is press releases. Most savvy marketers have a huge secret that you’ll seldom see them reveal. The secret is not the fact they use press releases to drive traffic. Everyone knows about that. The secret is how they use press releases as part of a strategy.

I’ll cut to the chase. The BIG GUYS submit press releases either bi-weekly or monthly! From personal experience, several of my articles have jumped from the basement to page one in 48 hours due to a press release. If you don’t know how to use this marketing tool to the maximum, please don’t hesitate to PM me with your questions. I’ll share some secrets with you.

Finally, I see you've already started blogging. Make sure you include RSS and you’ll want to update your content every day or at least several times a week.

This keeps Google’s spiders happy and makes it easy for you to see your websites climb the ranks. Don’t underestimate these unsung heroes of SEO. It’s all part of the strategy. I hope you find these tips helpful.

    Ciao,
    Doc Rich:)
