Seo duplicate content

    Hello,
I have a question to duplicate content. I offer many products on my web-shop and now I start wirtting some seo-texts. The problem is, I have one product in different colors. Can I use the same text for every product and just change the color? Or is the duplicate content and I get a penalty from google? And how hard will the penalty be? I know that the penalty will be a lower position in the google list. But if I get a penalty, how many places I will loose? 1, 10 or 100 places? Which dimension?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi,

Its depending upon the Google trust on your website. And also age of your website. Yes if you get penalty you may loose 50 to 70 places.

there is no yes or no answer. For example, some products by their nature will have the same exact content on different sites. I own an online fitness equipment store and no matter if you shop at my store or any other sites, each of us will have the same dimensions, specifications and prodcuts details for say the Life Fitness 95Ti treadmill. BUT, each site should have its own description. In other words, some content can be the same, but if there is room for analysis, not just spec charts, you should not just "copy and paste" the same review for each product on 100 different sites. Although, it would be no problem to list the same specs. If you are selling Table X, each out of the 100 sites selling Table X will have the same specs listed for it. If a table is 52 inches long and 3ft htall, it's going to say that no matter what web site I check.

it is always a good idea to use unique content. take the original product description and write few different versions of it. should not be too difficult and keep you worry free at the same time.

Agree it depends if you are competing with high authority sites for example you site vs wikipedia. of course you site is outranked by a high authority sites. also in terms of duplicate, it doesn't matter if you include the source it's still duplicate and copied from other website.

If the text is the same, then yeah it's duplicate content. You should really reword the content a little bit if possible. The penalty for that could vary depending on many other factors.

Personally I would mention the different color and also fill in the alt tag with the different color in the alt description. If it is laided out like a catalog or a product page you should be ok, but it is hard to say ?

I wouldn't worry about duplicate content on product descriptions.

Definitely shouldn't use the same text across multiples, that will be seen as duplicate. You'd probably have a pretty moderate penalty for that. Good luck :)
