Ok, I hyped up my title a bit.. But I have this site that I've been able to get ranked in Google and Yahoo in the top 10. Its a small niche. Lets say its "Blue Nike Sneakers". Anyway, I do not know H1 and H2. I use a website template thing. Is h1 the one that displays the title and H2 the description? Like when you look for my site, Its loaded with keywords at the title. The clickable part that gets indexed at the top. I've really got it loaded. Does having more words "dull" the effect down? Also, I've added content to mys ite and I actually saw my rankings go DOWN. Why? I believe that I went down because I added the same phrase, "blue nike sneakers" to several pages. Should I just focus one phrase per page? Lets say I have a page that branches off my main page, and I want to optimize it for INDIGO SHOES. Which is related to BLUE NIKE SNEAKERS, but is not the same. Can I have it rank int eh search engines for INDIGO SNEAKERS but still have the person land on the main page?
This is where a little knowledge of HTML is required...especially for SEO purposes. H1 and H2 tags are just heading tags that display different font size. Its usually a good idea to place your main keywords in your H1 and H2 tags, as google bot has been known to check those tags. But its not 100% that just because you have those tags that your site will be seo optimized. Having those tags couldn't make a difference in my opinion at all anymore, as more than anything google bot wants to see content. Follow the w3c standards and have great content and your site will be well optimized for onsite seo.
Microtek Thanks for the input. It was a bit above my head with the W3c standards, but I googled it and went to Validator.w3.org and had my site chcked. It had 83 errors! Is this bad? Do I need to get someone to go in here and fix this stuff? Also, does anyone else have any input on my original post? MWM
Just go to w3schools.org and learn for yourself. It would take you an afternoon at most to get a good feel for web design. If you need more, head over to lynda.com As far as keyword stuffing, you really want to be careful not to go over 4% for your keyword on the page. Any more and google might put the kabosh on it. HTH
umm u kno what...almost every site has errors according to w3c. doesnt mean much tho.... As long as your site isnt using all tables ...then ur ok. I would try to create relevant backlinks.....(blog commenting is a great resource...try Comment kahuna). And just keep ur site updated with new content. Any other questions...plz dont hesitate to post. Thanks.
if you don't post your site we can't give you good feedback. don't worry about competition. the important things is knowledge. when you have the knowledge you still can outrank your competitor.
