SEO - domainname extension

    Hi there,

I want to setup a site but I do not know exactly which domainname extension I have to take for my business as I want to serve customers from Belgium and Netherlands. They both have their own searchpage (www.google.be and google.nl).

As you know the searchresults are different between both of them so I was wondering which extension I should take to have good SERP in both pages.

    Should I use www.mycompany.NET instead of companyname.be/.nl?
Does it make any differences? I think when I use the .be domainname my companyname would probably show up only on google.be... or am I wrong?

What's the best for this case?

    Thnx in advance,

    raey

No, Your domain will show up in other google data centers too. But may be in google.be, your site will have good placement compared to google.com

anyway, why dont you use .com for your site

I like to use .com extensions rather than any of the others. Most people think in terms of .com first.

Do this, make a .com or .net and then host it in the netherlands or belgium, then go to webmaster central and pick regional settings of your choosing, make sure u have regional one way links from both countries.....)

So the solution is to take the .net extension as mainsite and redirect the.be/.nl domainname to .NET ?

Should I also get some backlinks to .be/.nl or is this waste of money and time?

When it comes to domain extensions, no specific one has more or less value than all the others. Only cTLD give you an advantage when it comes to that specific regions search branch of Google (ex. www.google.br). You'll bound to see certain extentions more than others, lets not forget that certain extentions have been around "many years" before others. This would me they would have many more well developed sites.

If you notice if you search for just about anything it's the dot coms that come up. I'm from the US, but I was in Ireland last week doing some Googling. After a search, Google asked me if I wanted to only search for websites in Ireland. I did and it was alot id .ie sites.

I would take both extensions. I you want you be found in both countries, then you should use both domain names.
