A client of mine was forwarded this link http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2007/02/27/ceo-says-seo-a-waste-of-time and told that I was trying to extract more money out of them!

And all because the 'hosting' company wont release details of the clients database to have their site redesigned!!

Anyway, this professional ;) hosting and design company in Canada believe that throwing this crap at clients is enough to hang onto clients they are failing and moving elsewhere.

    Anyway, enough of that...

Quite an interesting article and check out their highly optimised website too!!

    Arcos,

a search for "SEO mind crime" proves zilch. It's hardly a competitive phrase.

Yea I've done some tests... for a less competitive keyword you can get listed in 24 hours. But try to do that on a keyword that would generate you $1m/year. Will that work? the answer is: NOOOOOOOOOOO! So you dont need seo for less competitive keywords... I guess he just wanted some attention... and that's it he got it.

SEO mind crime is def. not a competitive keyword but because he has posted his article on authority website, google has picked it up very quickly...

If you quote the keyword "seo mind crime" and google that, it shows that only 518 pages have been optimized for that keyword...

So how can he say the keyword has been indexed for 826,000 pages?

    :confused::D

This is nothing more than misleading and poorly written linkbait.

i just hate the person who wrote that article i am being insulted as an seo specialist i dont think it is appropriate to say that it is a waste of money and time because what happen to his article mind crime is just pure luck with the keyword seo mind crime he rank what 3 or 4 in the last 24 hour, but in the other side just look at the competitiveness of his key, any one can do that with that kind of keyword competency.

a totally and utterly ridiculous article. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. In fact, he doens't know the first thing about SEO.

SEO is all about placing your website on the first page for frequently searched keywords. Its NOT about getting some unique unknown piece of information to the maximum people possible, as this guy seems to imply.

RSS cannot be a subsitute for SEO. RSS is simply a convinient way of getting your message across to readers, SHOULD THEY CHOOSE TO READ IT.

SEO, on the other hand, creates SOLID exposure and traffic for your website through the most popular place people look for: the search engines. SEO encompasses RSS, and many other aspects of Web marketing.

"To prove that SEO is waste of time he told his readers as a test to search for his article “SEO Mind Crime” on Google over the next few days.

The article was posted on Wednesday and 24 hours later the article appeared at positions 3, 4 and 6 on Google’s first page.

This was out of 826,000 indexed pages and Fallon believes that is proof why SEO is no longer needed in Web 2.0.
    "

As soon as I got to that part, I understood that this guy is an idiot.

So we are all pretty much agreed...

    Complete waste of time.

But then to clients who know nothing of SEO and accept what they read it is pretty time consuming to persuade them that SEO really DOES work!

Thanks to the author of this article I have spent the best part of 3 days discussing with a client the way forward on SEO and that it really can help their website and their business

SEO will always be a popular subject i guess...as long as there are pple who are willing to pay large amts of cash for it..

I know some of these people personally. They think SEO will make them rich overnight, so they SPEND lots of cash on it.

A little silly in my opinion. I think the best sites get listed naturally. Sure they optimize their pages, but SEO is not the ONLY way to get traffic.

SEO is one element in a marketing portfolio, it can be a source of significant traffic especially for high volume searched keywords, the best way to look at it... never put all your eggs in one basket.

the point should be that once your site is well optimized you dont need to keep tweaking it. But I agree that rss used properly can really be great for your seo rankings. Do SEO companies sell companies services they dont need and dont do anything on an ongoing monthyl basis: Absolutely.
