SEO is like a ship in the sea, which is Google. You never know how the sea will behave, how calm or violent it will become. The toughest part about SEO, in my opinion, is that you're sort of trying to play with Google, but it knocks you over from time to time. And it hurts. For example, one day you may do a rankings check and see that your site is completely gone from index. Google makes backhat techniques possible. And the only real way to complete with the black-hat guys is to use at least some grey to blackish techniques. And one day, there may be a major algorithm update, and you will bee washed out to the shore, together with the evil guys. So, this is what I think is a major disadvantage. I'd recommend any Internet marketer today, not to put all their eggs in one basket, and use various traffic channels, not only SEO for Google.

The biggest disadvantage in seo is position in the search engine is unpredictable. Because SEO is subject to changes in the algorithm .And most importantly if you will do Seo in ethical way then there is no disadvantage but If you will use unethical method then there are many disadvantages .
I am totally agree with your answer. I add some points here.. 1. When google change its algorithms and create some new rules for SEO work then any high quality sites which have best keywords at best position and which always used the best technique also suffer from those changes. 2. If we stop the work of seo for some time then the ranking automatically goes down.
