    Hi Guys...

Could I get a few opinions on this design please...

I've hit a brick wall and I know it isn't right yet.

The navigation needs to be looked at and a couple of other things too...

If you have seen seo-dev.co.uk then you will be able to get an idea of where the initial concept came from...

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks Guys

A live link would be handy...

So is it the live site you want us to look at or that image you posted?

I love the nightmare theme. :D
I made a haunted mansion holiday skull this year. They will be on my wife's halloween site later on.
    DIY Halloween Guide
Just finished the skull last night. :)

The site still has the nice basic layout you had before and now it has better graphics.
    I like it!

Maybe links in your posts should be the same color as the google ads link color. I like that redish color. I would make the title of the post that color too.

    I think that's all I'd change though.
    Good job.

In the bottom left corner you have a bit....."sites I like"...that needs re-doing...
'cos my site isnt on the list !!! :)
I agree with SGHeights, the links on the left should be a seperate colour so people can navigate easily..also breaks in words should be avoided ..like where you have a link infoma-tion

Thanks for the reviews so far guys....

I literally pulled this straight out of photoshop so the reason the lines aren't finishing is because of that.

What would you do with the navigation?

I'm soon to be moving the site away from Blogger to WordPress and I'm not too sure how much freedom I will have to move.

The Picture icons of jack (In the logo) will change every time the screen is refreshed, so that will add a bit of siomething to the page...

I'm mostly stuck with what to do with the navigation on the left.

I think I'm pretty havppy with the content are layout, I'm just not too sure what to do with the nav...

LIke I say, Cheers for the reviews so far...

All the help is really appreciated...

    Thanks guys

actually on second look..i think you should change your font...
you`ve ended up, maybe 'cos of the font size, with 'fractured text'
eg..in the top left are the words -concious webmasters-
but it reads a little like -concious webm aster s-
if you see what i mean.,,and that is happening all over the place.

Hey SE, good changes... like the theme and the color scheme, it's still quite close to the original template...

The colours are quite flat, maybe they could do with more of that Burton feel by being cracked-up a little to give a more aged texture?

What about having a hand-drawn jack? Assymetry would add to the TB theme...

The 'SEbasic' lettering is very Victorian, so how about introducing some 19th century rules between the nav sections?

The sort of thing I see for this is something like Chris Lund's Haphazard studios v4 with a sort of antique feel.

Gem means the justification of the text - I agree. =justified doesn't always work on web pages...

Looking forward to the next instalment :D

What to do with the nav? Well, what would Tim Burton do to it? What about a scroll or a piece of parchment? Or am I getting too carried away and all arty with this LOL

I think He'd probabally have some kind of really cool arty moteif running down the left bar.

I just don't know how to seperate each of the links.

As it stands, it just looks boring and drab you know...

The Burtonesque font for SEbasic, did that come from an tt font you have? Are there any interesting punctuation marks there that you could use, like asterisks? Like I mentioned earlier, it has a sort of Victorioana feel to it, very 19thC. How about doing a google search for images or sites with Victorian design? They used a lot of flourishes and motifs in their writing, think etched glass, bottle labels, posters... does that help?

    Yep...

That was actually a font called Burton's Nitemare.

    I really like it...

Unfortunatley it's not really extensive enough to have all of the cool punctuation marks I would like...

I'm having a look now for some ideas on the nav...

I'll post some links when I find something I like so you can take a look and give me your opinion :D

Very nice indeed, quite like HHS v4. It's got a real fascinating mix of old & new - some circuit board on there, and that void in the bottom RH corner is great with the curl of the paper. Reminds me a little of a CV I did ion crinked paper with a tea-mug stain, courier monospaced font and a mug-shot photo paper-clipped to the corner... wonder where that went?

You looking to keep the nav as text I presume and just decorate the bg?

    Well maybe...

I like the seperation of the nav on the SitePoint entry...

I could do something with the background, but I will have to make sure that whatever I make can be easily translated over to CSS.

That's going to be the tricky part with patterns...

Hmm, there's a lot of stuff missing on the web, Starbreeze studios used to have a great site when they did "Enclave" for the X-box, but it's all gone now. It was done by Fantasy Interfaces I think, but even that appears to be a very clean site now :(

The final ending design at csszengarden has a simple nav, albeit very dark, but the bg images give it the right feel. Maybe a little too dark for seo-dev?

I'll keep drifting through my bookmarks - there's just so many...
