SEO cost of coop advertising

Can someone explain why and how this system actually hearts PR and SEO visibility on SEs? I am not that hip to the complex world of SEs but from what I gather google and yahoo think the coop network is "cheating" and slam any site with it. The reason I got into the network was just to get advertising...as in new traffic. After hearing in a few other threads that SEs will actually hurt you I was a bit disturbed.

But then a question also popped in my head: if a google advertisement on a website that points to other sites does not get penalized why do we get penalized for running ads through the coop network?

Is the technical reason perhaps because the coop network does not run through javascript? If so...has anyone considered the coop network version 2.0 running using a client side javascript snippet which web spiders ignore and thus don't slam the site with penalty points?

Personally I tries to avoid commenting on the co-op but still, here is one for you.

Don't use it. Here is the general rule of thumb, if you don't know what it is, how does it work or how to use it and you have never used it before, most likely it won't work for you and worst, it can harm you. Not to mention u wasting so much time on it as well.

I have learned alot from DP community, so just thought of giving it back. Taking right decision and steps are very important in this business. One wrong step, and u will loose lot of money, time(=money, again). And worst, can also loose earlier hard work.

If anyone want to contradict me than please post there recent positive results with co-op.

PS - I haven't used the javascript version but I really don't know how it is going to help when everyone puts the links at the footer ?

I'm only testing it on a couple of proxies so it is no big deal. Hardly any risk. And there is no javascript version of this out that I know of, I was just making a suggestion to the developers. Why javascript? Because it will not show up as a link to a spider, it will just show up as a link to each client THROUGH a client side script so the chance of you getting penalized for running a link-circle = zero.

Just thinking out loud, that's all.

Yes, it's the linking out to the coop network that hurts your SEO. If you wrap it in JavaScript or in an iframe then the links don't count and you shouldn't get penalized. But I don't use them personally.
