SEO contests are getting more prevalent and more notice to the public. even non-seos are trying this out, well considerably, just for the money. i used to have my isulong seoph entry for the isulong seoph keyword ranking contests. but unfortunately, i decided to discontinue it coz i can't allot my time in link building than most contestants do. would you believe that one entry has already 300000 bls and counting for a month?! that's absurd! but kudos to it anyway, coz i can hardly do that! now, i found out that the SEO Contest is more of a battle for the most BLs in Google SERPS.
That's why did you register to this forums? (-> your nick) It's cool for the organizer If you are an organizer of one of this contests, you'll get many backlinks from many really good optimized websites.
yeah, that used to be the function. no, im no organizer. but i know the organizer himself and he just enticed me to join. i was enticed. but seems like the PCC campaign is taking a toll on my time, i can hardly cope wit hthe SERPs, and my entry's down for good. what the heck? i don't care much about the entry. i care about SEO and delving more and more and more... how i wish i could change my nick, but i can't
A small correction SEO Contest = smart use of Link Building And an entry with lesser no of links can also be ranked.. Thats a fact.
yah, that's smart use of link building. what's absurd is how the heck can they produce 300,000 bls in a month or weeks?! looks like i should've made some connections long before joining this contest.
Probably a bunch of co-op links (speculating). Nevertheless, you don't need a ton of inbound links to win an SEO contest. I'm currently winning retsambew dash klat for charity contest and have 1/5 the links of most of the sites below me. There's much more to SEO than backlinks, contrary to popular belief (and I say this on the contest page).
i tried a bit of onpage. but, it seems i'm somewhat going overboard with keyword stuffing. so i slack a bit. anyways, i guess i need some good topic and great great traffic, don't you think? ;P btw, any hints or tips on winning?
mdvaldosta... interesting. Yes you only have 920 and you are on top and you do not also have a keyword stuffed domain. You got any tips for us?
This is the generally accepted wisdom. But didn't Shoemoney get burned by his experience of running a small SEO competition? I can see the logic of running this sort of thing, but I'm always very sceptical about taking part. Although you may be able to learn something, for the majority of people who don't win any prize, surely there is a better use for their time? After all, you can also learn by analysing the techniques of the winners, without having to do any of the legwork yourself. There seems to be a proliferation of these sorts of competitions, and I wonder if people aren't just setting them up to distract SEOs from their usual jobs?
Even casino's are working this avenue. I have seen contests for a meer $1000 and they get thousands of web fools linking to one specific site using a specific keyword phrase. This is the appitimy of using webmasters for your bidding. I have seen only a few legit contest in later years and once entered one but only got a #1 listing on 2 of the 4 .de search engines. Lets get one going for google.com, msn.com and yahoo.com and see who would win. Id say it should be based upon top links on victory date based upon the page rank of the page. Entrants will have to use a new page though and backlinks on google would have to be under 200. I would put up $300 as one of the sponsors to get it going.
Absolutely. This is why I tend to steer clear of most "competitions", not merely SEO. Why work for free? It's a cunning way for the organiser to get a team of people working for them, and only pay the best one of them.
everybody here has a point! it's really time consuming, and it may not be worth one's time. unless one may have an ample idle of time to spend. anyways, this is a good try if one wanna know SEO 101--via practical application. for the organizers, i guess i have nothing to say to them. if one wins, then one wins. if one loses, then one loses. after all, the knowledge one has gained through such application still matters. to Benj Arriola: hanep, daming ISULONG SEOPH entries. career!
Nice photo Isulong Girl, I always wondered how you looked like Good luck to you and the Isulong SEOph contest. Actually I am pretty busy myself that catching up with everyone is really hard consireding I got tons of projects to finish too. Current leaders of the contest that are using backlink power are either... 1. Created a big website and had it indexed early on, spammed a subdomain, scraped content from some place else, and added a backlink on each page. 2. Some of them own big existing forums and blogs with high PR and added a link on every page. 3. Some of them, aside form their own blogs and forums, they also use the help of friends they can ask to add a link on their blogs and forums. 4. I have seen some link buying going on too. 5. Creating viral content as link bait. Jozzua's SEO Comics very successful with this. He is featured in many major SEO websites. Applications and other downloadables also try to attempt to do the same thing. The Isulong SEOph ranking wordpress plugin and others making themes. 6. Spammin and Jammin the forums. This one is the hardest on to do. And I salute the other contestants that invest so much time in doing it this way. I just have no time to do it that way,
I dont want to hijack this thread, but iam in the ambatch contest, where all the competitors are new and the top ranking sites have less than 500 links and the others sites so have more than 3000 links So many things play role in this than the number of total backlinks
Can you share some of them Amitpatel? I guess there is code to content ratio, keyword density, the basics like in the Title, Metas, using H1 to H6, proximty of keywords, what else?
^ haha, agree. one use to belong to a huge group of webmasters who agree to cloak for his entry. i saw that with my very own eyes...on the cached version vs. the live version.
A lot of the entries are really just for bragging rights. If the entry is a SEO company, a win could mean tons of new business.
i actually wrote some common things why filipino seos/seo newbies join such contest, one commented "for fame, of course." and once you're famous, then you got some bragging rights, right?
I personally think, an SEO contest just improves your SEO resume. Either for getting an SEO job, or doing your own SEO business.
