WOW! Thanks guys...From reading this post and doing some quick research I've just learned something new. Sadly, it's not the meaning of life
Making money or not making money, I still doubt anyone would waste a "powerful" domain just for a contest.
Webguerilla is offering the same cash prizes if you rank during the contest - but *don't* link to the v7n site. So you can still play the game even if you don't want to link to the original players. Web Guerrilla's SEO blog. <pure speculation mode on>I'm no expert in fast SEO work, preferring to trudge along slowly. However, I would speculate that any filters or penalties google has may be able to be bypassed for a search phrase that qualifies as 'news'. In other words, I would speculate that a lot of wildly diverse links that spring up fast, all pointing to a new page, could cause that page to rank.....*if* it's combined with a lot of new searches on the phrase and a lot of other activity on the web. And I'd further speculate that the DP network may be a perfect way to rank in this contest. A ton of new links from all over the place, on a phrase that Google sees as some new pop-culture thing and needs to return 'fresh' results? </pure speculation mode off>
Webguerilla is big in the SEO field. Matt Cutts commented on his blog post. Next probably Matt Cutts will blog about it himself. I have a feeling this will be as big or even bigger than nigritude ultramarine ...
But it will be interesting to compare the new sites with the old sites to see how much of an effect the sandbox has.
I don't think that taking a "powerful" site that makes nothing and using it to make a quick $1000 would be wasting it.
I was wondering that myself. You dont need some big huge banner on your main page with a link to that page, just a little text link at the bottom of your page.
$1000: http://www.v7n.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22836 + $1000: http://www.mikegrehan.com/2005/12/bloggin-heck-im-in-beautiful.html + $1000: http://www.webguerrilla.com/clueless/seo-contest/ = $3000
Ok, the max someone can win is $2000 though (if they don't link to v7n and link to the non www version of Cutts' blog).
Contest Grand Prize is now $4,000 V7N - $1,000 Greg Boser - $1,000 Oilman - $1,000 Mike G. $1,000 And yes, we will change the rules in order to allow the winner to get all four grand.
Sweet! Still growing, nothing out lasts the prize, it keeps growing, and growing, and growing, and.... And if it hadn't of been for the link requirement in the original thread, it would of probably stayed at $1,000!!!!
