SEO content strategy for ecommerce site

    Hi there,

I'm rolling out an SEO strategy for my ecommerce site - keywords, building backlinks, anchor text, content with keywords etc...

Obviously keyword-rich content is very important but ecommerce best practice seems to be to have offers above the fold (rather than having a home page stuffed with text). It seems like most good ecommerce sites have an emphasis on catchy headings, then product images and a quick path to the shopping cart.

So - my question is: should my keyword-rich text content be in pages linked from the home page, or does it really need to be on the homepage to be effective i.e. is it simply a trade off between maximising SEO versus good ecommerce site structure ? Should I just build my ecommerce site structure the way that I want it (with keywords in H1 & H2 headings) and stick all the rest of my content at the bottom of the page ? Thanks.

Add some content on the home page, focusing on your title tags that would be related to what you write. Don't make it spammy, has to be natural looking. Also, focus on creating each page with good content and good title tags, the h1 and h2 tags don't mean much anymore the weight is not as heavy build good quality back links quality is more important then quantity. Have e-commerce site myself have couple, and tested all aspects need build good content, get blog up there, and create killer back links you will be fine.

also go for Google AdWords. Spend some time for off-page optimization

seriously I wouldn't worry about putting in keyword rich content too much. It's the external links pointing to your site that will make the difference.

Just make sure product description are reasonably lengthy and that title tags include just 1 or 2 keywords you wish to rank for.

I agree with T_Media. Links are the most important thing for rankings.

For an e-commerce website, you have to earn your customer's trust. You don't want to scare them off with spammy keyword rich content. Just use keywords where it sounds natural.

As for the distribution of your content, put some unique content on your homepage and more unique content throughout your website. Your homepage will likely be your most important page, but you will still want your internal pages to rank well.
