Wow. That's a lot of money. I don't think it was worth it.
You could purchase a domain name not as good as seo.com but use the $5million to develop a successfull website.

If they are really rich then good for them they get the domain of their dreams but I am sure they could have got a nicer domain for reg fee and developed it with the last 4.99 million and have been ranked in all search engines for all the keywords they could dream of.

Thanks for the reference to my Magazine OP.

Aside from the fact that SEO.com is only 3-characters in length, it is an extremely popular buzz key word. A generic term if you will. This domain name will only increase in value. Even if the SEO firm flops the investment in this domain name is a good one.

Several years down the road this domain will be worth $10 mil. If I had the money I would be buying generic word domains left and right.

I couldn't imagine buying a domain for $5,000,000. However if your rich, you could buy the domain, and use heaps of other money for site development. If in 50 years the site is worth nothing, then at least you could sell the domain for $50 million

Yes i say it was worth it, people know they are a serious company and they can potentially make that back in no time working on Fortune 500 companies.

The article says they made $65 million from selling domains, so why not spend $5 million on one of the most sought-after domains available?

Imagine how much they will make from advertising on it? Incredible.
