I thought everyone might find this info useful: Here's data from AOL regarding which positions get clicked: For Positions ranking from 1 - 10, the % of clicks for: Rank 1: 42.13% Rank 2: 11.90% Rank 3: 8.50% Rank4: 6.06% Rank5: 4.92% Rank6: 4.05% Rank7: 3.41% Rank 8: 3.01% Rank 9: 2.85% Rank 10: 2.99% Here's where the citation came from: http://www.jimboykin.com/click-rate-for-top-10-search-results/#comment-4680 Thanks, Mike
These numbers are probably skewed by the fact that the vast majority of searches are for company names, so of course the number 1 spot is going to dominate the clicks. This isn't an accurate reflection of how many clicks each spot gets for a generic search term. I rank 2nd for a generic term, down from number 1, and it sees about 66% of the traffic it used to (not 25%-30% like this study would infer).
Hey there, I really do not think the drop is that drastic between the first three positions. Watching over my browsing habits, I usually choose the result that has the best title + description within the first 5 results. Sincerely, Travis Walters
