ha ha... here at DP you can start reading a thread about a google update, 2 pages later it turns into a thread about what color boxers does Nintendo use, 3 pages later it turns into a thread about how cold the air conditioner is at the London subway... ad infinitum...
What's this forum for then? Or this thread? I say compare apples with apples. And the apple in this case is SEO. I'll take your word for that. As I said, I don't see much difference in the knowledge level between the two. I appreciate that Mike, but so far, I haven't learned anything new here - at least in reguards to SEO. So I'm seeing the same thing in reverse. And as mentioned, SC seems more "on task" about things. Here the people are friendlier and more chatty. The information comes through, it just takes a bit longer. I also see more posts at SC going out on a limb. Theories and speculation. It gets brutal sometimes, but the information that comes out of it and proving or disproving someone's idea is amazing. Here it's more "here's the answer now did you see Oprah yesterday..." type stuff.
One of the reasons seochat ranks so well is the amount of content, mainly articles. Search engines are not able to determine their quality. I have read thru some of them. No offense, but: 80% of what I read, should have never been published on a serious search engine related information site holding some sort of authority. One thing I know about DP, I can trust the community overall! I get people coming in saying something stupid or wrong, but always eventually someone will set things straight and you have the truth in front of you. When someone of status on seochat chooses to get ahead of himself and says something wrong, it gets backed up, kind of the "he is one of us" mentality. There is so much ego floating around over there, you can't really get to the point without having to kiss your way thru. I'm looking at a thread in there right now, and I see about 5 people responding with the same answer back to back while one of the posters questions has not even been addressed. It's beyond me how anyone can prefer seochat. I have no problem with the Oprah stuff as long as I get the info that I've wanted. Here I get it, people have time left for the chit chat. I prefer that to having a topic dragged on and on and on without ever getting the full answer. Mike
Guys - I love this forum... And both of you (MD - rmccarley) you have valid points. And so does that shoutbox over at SEOchat... It's all about the way we like to conduct business... Some like the really social aspect (I work for a "media" company - very social) and some don't. You guys have to realise - neither forum is actually better than the other. I like the people at dp. I like the McDar thread. I like a lot of the newbie questions too... But there is a lot shit to dig through before you find the gold... I've never posted at all on SEO chat (I think I have 4 posts - and I don't remember what password I used) but I do read i every now and then... It has some pretty interesting threads - but I prefer the end result I get at dp... Courses for horses... Six of one and half a dozen of another... Basically - they both have there plus points, and their bad points (Honestly - the thing I dislike most about SEO chat, is the ads.) - neither are perfect.
Excellent post, another great post by SEbasic, great post by mike, really well thought out Golf clap, bravo, good show
Hellmans is so much better...People who like Miracle Whip have fewer brain cells. That stuff just plain stinks
Why is this thread even still alive? This forum and SEO Chat are two totally different entities. This forum is not primarily is SEO (or even a marketing) forum. This forum was started as a place to support the tools/products I have. To be honest, everything else was secondary (most forums here came about by so many threads about a particular topic, they were split into their own sub-forum). Forum topics here are fluid... What users talk about ultimately dictate the forum topics, not the other way around. There is currently a list of 11 topics (really) that are close to needing to be split into their own.
Hehe... I think the admin of that forum doesn't like me because I make tools, and I he doesn't think there is a reason (ever) to use tools. Now that I think about it, maybe no one likes me... I'm taking my toys and going home!
No wonder you've started your own forum. Everyone you go on, you seem to run into problems I need a forum that is highspeed interaction to keep me interested, so when people complain about sidetracking my answer is: multi task it, or jump to another thread when things go off topic. Added: Wonderful question! But in all honesty: the best way to learn IMO is to read blogs from people like Matt Cutts, Jenstar, Randfish and Rusty Brick and then ask questions in a forum where people will give you unbiased answers to the best of their knowledge (hint: you're there) Searchenginewatch is another source of good information. Not a place to chat, but you won't have to deal with the circle jerkin either. Straight up info.
