SEO Challenge

How many people would be interested in trying to takeover a major keyword?

I was just thinking with all the SEO talent here, perhaps we could try to take over a huge keyword with a select group of 25-50 (maybe more) people. Splitting the ad revenue could be a good incentive but it would be mainly to see if we could do it.

    Any takers?

You don't want my skills (or lack there of) involved in this.... but it reminds me of the SEO sales rep (scum) that called me last week wondering if I was ready for, 'total world domination!' (sure....why not?) ~ I laughed at him, but I think this team could do it.

I would be very intersted in this mostly to see the progress of what a whole team of SEO pros can do. I know what I can do as one person, and can only imagine the power of a team.
Let me know what you had in mind.

Well there are two choices. "Politcal/Public Service" or "Corporate". Getting first the first SERP for "Iraq" would be political, getting into the top 5 results for "Ebay" would be corporate.

It all depends on the message that we are trying to send.

I don't mind fronting the hosting money and registerring the domain name. However if somebody with more history of being fair would like to be in charge (A shawn type) that might be even better.

Also I am envisioning a common forum and each contributor would have his/her own sub-directory with FTP access.

    I'll join in with that...

What's going to generate most revenue?

Maybe we could donate it to Dominic's homeless project. At least that would be a really beneficial cause...

    What do you think?

I am up for anything. Let me know what you guys have in mind for some specifics and I will be glad to help. If the homeless thing is it that is cool. I would also like to SHAKE an industry rather than something common. A harder fight but a bigger smile in the end:)

I like the idea of showing the Corporate world groups of people have power, and the idea of donating the proceeds to a needy cause.

    I'm in too. :D

    Much Agreed!
Choose a Highly Competitive Corporate Keyword and Market and give all the proceeds to a chosen charity. This can be fun

What well-known target would we pick? The keyword choice should come easily after the target is decided.

Well do we want to go for a real big name/product/brand/ or a not so big, but still searched a lot so we might have more of an effect?

I just checked the wordtracker top 200 list to see what is searched the most.
edited to be terms that are maybes:
    Rank Count Keyword
    4 141514 google
    5 130414 ebay
    8 120520 yahoo
    17 75322 mapquest
    21 68098 dictionary
    23 66686 britney spears
    30 58652 search engines
    32 57446 hotmail
    45 49406 American Idol
    47 47670 ask jeeves
    113 28808 airline tickets
    116 28659 amazon.com
    130 26240 aol.com
    135 26101 kelly blue book
    139 25303 southwest airlines
    143 25166 walmart
    176 22049 yellow pages
    178 21972 south beach diet
    180 21779 lowes
    185 21584 hairstyles
    195 20909 sears

Personally I don't want to take away actual informational results like dictionary, or mapquest, but keywords like walmart, sears, south beach diet, all sound good.

If we don't take words from here specifically at least it can give us ideas. :)

I'm game, I'd be more than willing to donate space on my server, but I'm afraid that as the game progresses, the cost of bandwidth would be more than my wallet could bear :) However, I would be willing to set up hosting for any 'helper' domains that would be set up.

I would like to make Microsoft take notice too, but Walmart might be a more realistic alternative.

I am game, we need to run this through the underground (no headstarts to DP ;))

If we choose American Idol, I am making mine about Shawn... muwahahahha.

We should look through adwords and see what will pay the most. We might as well get paid and maybe make some donations while we are at it. Would make sense to leave out ® and TM products or services.

    How about SP2?

Let's do Iraq and not mention the war at all. Just do a walking guide with tourist attractions and weather information stuff. On page isn't that important anyway.

Yeah that would be pretty funny.

We should do some kind of spoof for whatever it is we SEO.

That would be really good fun.

I think some kind of american idol thing would be hilarious. Make up some fake winner.

    Hehe.

We could do a little play on words with Iraq, and use it as "I Rock!!!".
