The only one that I can think of that would be well known is the courses offered by SEMPO. However they are not needed to succeed in this industry or to even get a job with a marketing company. You can read about it more here though

They provide SEO CERCIFICATES. One is regular and another is professional depending what training level you end up with.

I tend to agree with you, but when you look at customer acquisition, which do you think they would rather hear:
"I'm certified by Google" or "I post on a message board"?

What I think, SEO is just research work. Collecting the data available on internet to a perticuler service.

SEO comes with experience, and Search Engines change their algorithms all the time. Even if you get a certification a year ago, it wont be of use now. Make your own sites, get rankings for them, and show them to your clients for proof. Your sites will be your certification.

I think that more than both of those they would rather hear or read testimonials of current clients who have been befitting from your SEO services.

MSN search went no-where, or Microsoft would have created SEO Certification and have book publications on it.
