Why you need a book? Search for SEO in Google and you will have lots and loads of SEO books and other updated stuff out there!!
In my opinion, there is no need to take time to read the seo book. When you have trouble, just visit the google or yahoo. Also you can join in some forums like this, you can get more information than from the books!

I agree do not waste your time reading books. If you want to learn the very basics then may I suggest reading Google's Webmaster Guidelines. Any other questions you have I would ask on forums like this one so you can get a diverse answer and not one that is from one point of view.
Serach google and find a couple reputable seo blogs and you will be on your way. As said, google webmaster guidelines is a good start
SEOBOOK's in my opinion are not a waste of time. Sure you can use Google, but what you need to understand or keep in mind is that the information you get maybe confusing by Google search. My advice to you is to get an SEO book, learn the basics, start experimenting. then you need to subscribe to some top SEO sites and get updated about the latest in the SEO industry. I use planetocean. I get montly updates to changes that google, yahoo, bing, askjeeves. I find it very useful. They also have an SEO book for purchase.

Find something that you can follow through, like videos and stuff. That way, you'll practice while watching. But anyway, SEO is something that you can do yourself like: on-page and off-page SEO, linking, copy writing, navigation, web site designs, menus, content, etc… Ask in the forums, and people will answer!
I agree. Allthogh I wouldn´t say that books are a waste of time, there are really lots of informations about SEO in the web. Take a look at some blogs and forums, stick to those that you like the most, make your SEO plan and also stick to it (and be patient...).

Lots forums are available you will get SEO information. Google is best to get full information to tell about SEO
