I have read some amazing posts from a few hardened coders on how SEO works in terms of Google ranking your web pages and just wanted to pose a very brief statement regarding my understanding of how SEO works.

Having created and maintained many websites with either 1st position in Google or first page over the past 10 years I feel I know a little su'um su'um. I am no expert but I can hold my own and realize that each day involves learning and embracing every learning experience. I firmly believe that using a good content management system is on of the best ways to start a site capable of achieving a good Google ranking. I say this having built one static site that performs extremely well on Google and from which I operate an Amazon affiliation and have 1st position on many different keywords. It is 1st position with no page rank. Make what you want of that. That site reviews the best a3 printers and was not created using any CMS but I have left it as it is for many years out of love.

Drupal used along with modules such as "SEO" will start you off to the correct use of title tags and meta descriptions. We must remember that relevant content is still king and picking a sensible domain name is the only way to start a website. Never pick a domain name that you like and then work out how to find content. Let your choice of domain name be led by your intended content and monetization method, if any.

Learn where to use H2 and H3 tags within your content and always say less where possible. Within Drupal activate "clean urls" and the "path" core module to make the nodes (pages) more readable. Spend a lot time playing around with Drupal and browsing the Drupal support site.

Drupal forces you to enter page titles which are H1 tags and do not use any more H1 tagging within the content. H2 downwards and make the title tags nest below their natural parent. In fact, to understand Drupal properly involves learning on page SEO to some point.

Never copy web content that is not quoted and learn how to quote instead of being misunderstood as a plagiarist. I prefer not to quote other sites and it is probably better to explain the content in your own words and give reference to where you got the information. Original content is often only unorignal ideas written differently. That's cool just follow the rule.

My last comment for today is: Never buy a mirror site (one with 1000's of identical sites) that is presented as yours by the creation of a sub-domain such as yourname.mirrorsite.com. You will throw you money down the drain on PPC and God knows what else and if you feel you need to buy a mirror site to start on the internet, stop. Learn gradually and maybe start with a free blog as you learn about web design and content creation.

I'm tired now but I'll be back soon. ;)
