    Hello all,

I am new to the SEO world and have spent the last hour or so looking through your forums for advice (I found the FAQ's in the forums as well as some links very helpful).

I was wondering if you could point in the direction of any 'essential' beginer tools and information which may help me learn.

I am pretty hands on when it comes to computers/software and I am looking forward to developing my SEO skills so any help would be great.

Just a quick question too, whats the difference between link farms and directories from an SEO point of view? I know they have differences but do search engines see it this way? Would I get black listed for adding our site to directories?

A link farm has hundreds of low quality links on one page. A directory is sorted into categorys and gives valuable co-citation benefits to your site assuming you are in the right category.

Are some directories higher value than others?
Looking at the directory sites themselves some look fairly poor quality :( Would you mind providing me some links to good directory sites, my employer is UK based however so USA ones may be irrerlevant.

The best way is to search google for them. Search for "Uk directory" "Uk business directory" and "Your keyword directory".

Ok cool, I will get on to that one later then, I will have to ask around the office to see if it has already been done but I get the feeling not.
    Thanks mad4.
