I am trying to ween my top BANS site off of Adwords. I understand from multiple threads on this forum that the key to SEO is CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT. I have created several "content" pages for the site, which have few or no products on those pages (i.e. about 6 pure content pages). Is that sufficient or should I put some content on each and every store page as well? If so, how much content on store page (2 lines, 2 paragraphs, etc.), what is recommended? Finally, how do I tell a search engine that my site is out there and to come look at it? Thanks in advance.
okay content is nice but its not going to get you ranked! i have a few Bans sites ranking in top 3 for popular search terms that are pretty much straight out of the box!! okay steps you need to take 1. Think of the main keywords you would like to be searched for e.g i can see you have baby products in your sig so i would guess you are dealing with that. . . maybe the term 'baby products' you need to find keywords that people are searching for but competition is small enough to give you a shot of ranking high! 2. Get links to your websites with the above keywords as the anchor text .. i.e the writing with the blue line under it .. you can do this in many ways, link exchange with simular sites, directory submission, article submission, social bookmarking ... if you dont wish to do these by yourself then look in the services forum you can pick all this stuff up for a few $$ 3. Rinse and repeat -- keep adding content use more keywords and get more links! Also a bit of on page SEO will help e.g. using H1,H2 tags with your keywords in them, your keywords in the meta tags and title. If you do above successfully you will rank well for them keywords and get the organic traffic you wish for Also look at your PPC campaign and use the more successful keywords from there as your link keywords. Hope that helps!
I'm working on adding content in each one of my category pages. If you are running analytics, check and see what keywords are being used to arrive to your page. Start working on those words. Also, check out this thread for a similar project: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=612959
Content is king, but SEO is the throne he sits on. Just make sure you are link building with you chosen keywords.
I have been using phpBay with little SEO content as yet (site still being developed) and Google is finding my content and giving me good rankings already.
