    Go to:

    inventory.overture.com/

type in a word that relates to your industry. You will see relevant keywords and the number of times they were searched in a month.

From their, head to Google and find out how many sites are in the SERPs of those terms.

You should be able to see which terms are going to attain the quickest/easiest and biggest results.

    Example:

    Term: Work from home
    Searches: 100,000
    Results: 55,000,000

    Term: easy home business
    Searches: 50,000
    Results: 200,000

By comparing the terms you would like to target in this way you will quickly gain a reasonable perspective on the terms your should target and the traffic you can expect.

In my example, it would not be realistic (unless you have ££££) to attain ranking for 'Work from home' - however 'easy home business' would bring lots of visitors and would be comparatively easy to rank for.

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

Use the Google Adwords tool to scan the site and see what keywords it see's. Another good tool is the Keyword Discovery tool.

Keep in mind no tool can give you specific numbers of searches performed on Google, always use more than one tool to get a better picture on what to target.
