I want , because to have site more organised, to have subdomains... For site categories per example (new cars, used cars and other stuff) i want to have newcars.mydomain.com, used.mydomain.com and cettera...and then from menu linking to that subdomains. Instead in menu link (www.mydomain.com/newcars/) I will use (www.newcars.mydomain.com). How is that working with SEO? How Google looks at that?
For google, as far as i know, www.newcars.mydomain.com is a new site. Beside this, if you want to use this subdomain you have to redirect (301) visitors from /newcars/ folder.
Every subdomain is 95% of the time accessible as domain.com/subdomain So the 301 is not really necessary. Subdomains are better for SEO (you will have the interlinking power of several websites (As fireeyes sais, Google sees every subdomain as a new website). As for accesibility, you'll have difficulty with the cookies, if you use subdomains for your website's different sections.
It's true! but what do you do when a person with bad intetions put a link to you!? It is a possibility . . . Or, another possibility. it's enought to click on an external link (you or a person witch knows the url)
i dont have any problems with sudomains .... i think they are good i am even thinking of registering one general domain name and build all my sites around that domain .... i did that already and all are indexed by google and getting hits like any other www.domain.com
I have a real estate site that we split into subdomains by geographic area. We linked these subdomains from our homepage and site wide as menu items. Each subdomain now has the same pr as the homepage and they all receive targeted traffic. The traffic started to come almost immediately after the new subdomains were set up. Mostly from Google, MSN. Google, Yahoo, MSN and all the big players tend to create subdomains on their main domains which leads me to believe the practice is a good one. Adding the subdomain indicates you offer a different service under your brand (domain name). think toolbar.google.com mail.yahoo.com finance.cnn.com etc.
subdomains can be an awesome way to segregate your site subjects and also have the benefit of "extra sites" for your main site. Google will see them as seperate sites. Not sure about the possible interlinking problems as no doubt you will be linking between them. But as long as it is not abused, shouldnt be a problem. Brad
When linking within your subdomains (internal site links), would you link to sudomain.domain.com or domain.com/subdomain ?
Make up your mind. Is it subdomain or page with a domain that you want to link to ? Anyway, it really depends on how you want your website structured, eg. if you use a user login system, then you might have problems with cookies amongst all those subdomains. Just remeber, a subdomain (eg. subdomain.domain.com) is an etirely new website in Google's eyes. So if you think you'll add a photos. subdomain, and then rank first (because your domain does that, and it's old, and has X backlinks etc), you're in for a surprise
What I mean was that if you want to point any links at all to a page on a subdomain, would you point that link to subdomain.domain.com or domain.com/subdomain - or will it not matter? That applies to all links, not just internal links as I said before.
