How SE are threating sub-domains? I knew that google in the past threated each sub-domain name, as another domain name... and this was stupid... because you was getting links from the same IP , what about know? any news? also about yahoo, msn ... I think it's very nice to have something like http://jobs.softgroups.com and http://templates.softgroups.com, instead of http://www.softgroups.com/jobs.php or http://www.softgroups.com/templates ... if you get what i mean ...
Why on earth would you think that it is stupid? I sub-domain "should" be treated as a separate site. It IS in most cases a separate site. It has nothing to do with IP address. Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of web sites share IP addresses at hosting companies like GoDaddy or HostGator under shared hosting plans. It wouldn't make sense to treat domains or sub-domains with the same IP address to be the same site. What about all of the community sites out there like Blogspot.com, Wordpress.com, etc. or wordpress.mu sites that utilize sub-domains so that people all over the world can host their own blog or web site. Should mysite.wordpress.com and yoursite.wordpress.com be considered my site and your site respectively (as the search engines see them today) or should they be seen as being part of the parent domain (wordpress.com) as you are proposing. It think it would be "stupid" to assume that sub-domains are the same site as the parent domain. I think the search engines got it right. I think your idea is the one that is wrong. Why do you need a sub-domain any way? Sub-folders work just as well with LOTS of added benefits.
