seo and sem

    Can anyone please tell me whats the exact difference between SEO and SEM? Are the Techniques used in both of them are similar?

    How I see SEO is more about link building, on site optimization, more techie stuff
    and SEM is more like Article Publishing, Press Realease, Creating Buzz via WEB.0 sites like Facebook or Twitter
    As everything gets closer nowadays and there are no hard written borders between many subjects these two get closer and overlap as well in many cases.
    Sem is more about Marketing the product, service or person.
    Seo is more about how to get on the top of SERPs for particular phrases.

    Man I think you are wrong. SEM is search engine marketing and it includes SEO and PPC. And SEO come under SEM.
