    Hi all,

Totally new to building sites and SEO, but I have a question regarding IP addresses and SEO. I just got some webspace at host gator (baby package) on a shared server. I registered with one domain and installed a wordpess blog in a directory.

Now I want to add an aditional domain, but this one will point to the same IP address/dns nameserver as my initial domain. Will this have any consequences on how google, bing will rank me? Should i just point to the same domain, or should i buy an additional IP address (if possible) and linkt it to this.

    Help is really appreciated.

    Thnx

    Hi

It all depends on wether you plan to link one blog to the other. If you are using the blogs seperatley then the same i.p. is fine. However if your using the blogs as your own kind of blog network then it's an extremely bad idea.

So basically if you are going to host the blogs on the same i.p. DON'T link one to the other

most people use one hosting account and host multiple sites on that same IP. as long as the sites are independent, there is no reason to be concerned of. even if the sites are related and you link form one site to another, it is still fine as long as there is no heavy interlinking from every page of one site to every page of another site.

Sultan pretty much said it all. A few sites interlinking on the same IP is fine as long as they are related. But don't interlink a lot of sites on the same IP. It might start looking like a link farm and could trip an automated filter at Google.
