Does anyone here use joomla content management system? I know that joomla has SEO functionality so using this SEO feature within Joomla, does it determine a high ranking within the major search engines? The reason i am asking this is because joomla is like an automated system so how effective would the SEO feature be compared to doing it manually? Usually i have heard that it takes months to get a high page ranking using SEO. Could anyone advise?
my site zipposuperstore.com is a joomla site. I am listed on the first few pages of gooogle.com.au for my keywords, so it is possible. It took about 2 months to achieve this. ( probably 5 hours a week, reading seo blogs and fourums etc )
You mention that the site is listed within the first few pages but not exactly on the first page. You also mention that it took you 2 months. Does it generally take this much time to achive high page ranking or in some cases, can it take much less time? Compared to the ppc advertising, how much investment is needed for SEO? I just want to find out which approach to take when marketing my website. Currently I am using ppc which is costly but gives fast results. Is SEO worth the risk considering the amount of time spent and then losing your Ad position overnight?
Hello adpk77. From personal experience I got better results with Drupal at SEO than Joomla, but then again this was just my case I can't generalize for all... And about SEO.... If You want a stable pagerank you must get quality permanent one-way links. You can find cheap links everywhere on the internet but they are not always reliable. For an efficient and stable result you have to invest some big money. I spent $4.000 raising a site to a stable and clean PR7, but then the investment was worth it... sold it for 10k soon after...
actually i do have my site on page 1. go to google.com.au and search zippo. i think my site is 4th and a link from hotfrog.com to my site is 6th. it took me two months because i started from scratch. reading everything i could find. ( i didnt know about DP forums then). Also because i worked 48 hours a week so i only spent 1/2 hour here 1/2 there. Also i did it totally free.
I use Joomla all the time and have fairly good success with SEO. One thing I have found is that there are some very good extensions for Joomla that have helped drive up my traffic considerably. One is called JoomSEO and is a plugin that creates your meta keywords on the fly based on keyword density of your articles. In some cases this works better for me than assigning keywords by hand. Another obvious addition to Joomla (if you haven't done it already) would be to install an SEF component such as 404sef or OpenSEF to make sure your URLS are search engine friendly as well.
OpenSEF is now NuSEF if you are looking for that. It has been taken over by someone after the original developer gave it up. In general, the more time you spend with content, the better you will do with Google. Also, consider running adsense. I can't say this will raise your place on the engine, but the bots find you real quick. Hope this helps.
I use JoomlSef on my site, http://www.freesoftguide.com So far it's working, ok. It's a new site, so still PR0
Joomla 1.5 is optomised for SEO I would recommend it, if you use 1.0.14 I would use artio sef it works great.
Since sept 2007, I replaced Artio JoomSEF to sh404SEF for some reasons : - sh404SEF is a great SEO component - easy to setup - it hasn't sponsor text on the footer as the free Artio JoomSEF when you put <?php include_once('includes/footer.php'); ?> code
1.0.14? 13 is latest stable release. I would advise not to use 1.5 for several months as it is still very buggy.
