Hi guys, just looking for the opinions of fellow DP users on SEO and the importance of which host and which platform you use.

Most of us are aware that Apache has excellent SEO'ability when powered by mod-rewrite() rules and of course through .htaccess powered canonical. Also hosting your site in the same country as your target audience aids your regional search term indexing.

    So a few questions...

    1) How many sites can be hosted on a shared hosting plan or single IP before/if Google penelises you for duplicant content.
    2) If you receive backlinks from a site which is hosted on the same IP/Server does it lessen the weight of the backlink? I understand that receiving a backlink from an IP outside of a class C address is better?
    3) Are some hosts penalised in regards to SERPS if they host dodgy conent? And likewise are some hosts ranked better?
    4) What type of optimisation is available on Windows hosting which is specific to the hosting enviornment?

    Thanks guys.

One site with duplicate content will have a filter applied the original will not.

Otherwise I have 60 sites some in the same categories but none with duplicate content and all are doing well.

    Part 1 = Yes Part 2 = Correct.

Some servers could be associated with blackhat tactics or spamming. Most reputable hosts will work fine though.

Isappi is the windows version of htaccess

    Welcome!:)

Thanks for the info. How do you know is your server's IP is C class? Or which cluster it's in?
