Is flash still considered a bad idea for SEO? Does anyone have any tips to allow the using flash applets and not hurt your rankings?

well, there was some kind of pressrelease about it, but its really hard to determin if it does read flash or not since there are no visible proves. As for <noembed> - you can look at the google's cache and click on the text link at the top - it will show you all the info between the noembed tags.
There is a command to check any specific filetype when u use google. In this case you would use/type : nokia filetype:swf So ... yes it does spider flash.
Show me a list of flash sites that score well in organic serps? Hell, Nike dosen't even score for KW shoes, tennis, basketball, and they have a 5 million dollar budget. I have yet to see a flash site score well for organic search. D

They have a few swf files that have text appearing in the search result snippets, but not all of them. Links might not be all of it, I'm pretty sure they have more than links.
