Ok I just started a blog for the sole purpose of eventually making some adsense income. My question is will my blog ever be listed by google if I just use the generic http://improvegasmileage.blogspot.com/ domain or do I need to get my own domain?

Of course it will get listed...
It can even get to top positions, depending on the keywords you choose ;)

Unfortunately I have to say that starting a blog for the SOLE purpose of making some profit through Adsense might not be a great idea.

I hope you have the inspiration and ideas to write a blog that you will be happy to keep alive.

There are so many dead blogs out there...

    :)

make sure you regularly update your blog, atleast one post every day, related to your topic. Get other bloggers to link to your blog and leave your links on forums and other communities and lists. You'll see a steady traffic building soon if your topics are interesting and good enough.

ok well it looks like google has atleast seen my site and cached a copy of it. Is it normal for that to happen within 24 hours? I was thinking it took much longer than that.

I started a new blog 4 days ago and added it to my Google Sitemap account.

The main page was indexed today. So you got listed 4X faster on a shared domain than I did w/ Google's own sitemap utility.

And that seems to be the way of things from everything I've read.

So it has been indexed already in just 24 hours. It can happen, but it's a lot better than average.

How did Google find you, did you submit or is there a link that G followed?

Blogs and Seo are the related task. Blogs are non commercial and search engine never remove the blogs. But the important is how you take the knowledge related to them yesterday i visited the site

I dont know how G found my blog because it still shows 0 backlinks but it does list my site. I assume it could be that G owns blogger.com so maybe they spider it more often.

Yes any domain can be found by a search engine as long as the little spiders can get to it.

My advice is to test the waters with blogspot for a month and if you are still committed make the change to wordpress with your own domain.

The problem with a blogger blog is that Google can one day just switch it off and then you have nothing (and this happens a lot especially on AdSense focused blogs). At least with your own domain you don't lose your position if your host decided to delete you.

I have a blog traffic tips newsletter with an issue devoted specifically to this topic.
