Hi Neev, There are two parts of SEO: ON-SITE & OFF-SITE optimisation. Both are important to get higher Google position for certain keywords. ON-SITE - Keyword in URL, title, description, header, sitemap, logo image (alt text & filename), etc. OFF-SITE - Domain age, page rank, # indexed pages, back-links, anchor text, social media, etc. 3 major factors for back-links have a massive impact on ranking: 1) NUMBER OF LINKS to page => Each link is a vote of good quality content 2) AUTHORITY of linking page => The longer a site has been around & the higher its page rank in Google, the more authority it will have. 3) ANCHOR TEXT of links => Text of links of a page gives better indication of content. The reason why AUTHORITY of linking page plays such a huge role is this: Page Rank (PR), i.e. Google's measure of authority, which works from 0-10 (10 being best), is an exponential function, not linear. So, a back-link from a site of PR=1 has 10x more authority than a site with PR=0. Similarly, a back-link from a site with PR=5, has 100,000x more authority than a site with PR=0. On the other hand, number of links (authority & all other factors being equal) is linear. So, focus on getting as many links as you can from high PR sites. You can sometimes piggy-back on existing high PR sites by doing a Google search for your niche and seeing what are the top 10-20 sites.
