I would like to get some advice on optimization of an org site. Though I have managed to optimize some .com websites, I am finding it very difficult to optimize an .org website http://www.tinyheartsfoundation.org I am posting the url so that some kind hearted SEO's would suggest some idea's to make it more search engine friendly. I have done this website absolutly free of cost and am even sponsoring the hosting. As any SEO would do, i posted links to this site from all my other .com sites. I would like to know whether a link from an .org site will weigh more for this site. Secondly if any of you are in a postion to donate a link to this site it would be very generous of you, thirdly if any of you know of a list of directories for these org sites to get back links, it would be great. And at last if you are from nearby coimbatore, India, you can visit and meet the doctors involved and children waiting for cardiac surgery and make a generous donation. Any other form of advice and help to promote the website or organization is most welcome. Abhilash.
What is the difference in indexing org site compared to com site ? IMHO, there is no difference that se's gives for indexing being a different TLD.
.com is suposed to be commercial while .org is non-profit so if you look for "buy something" a .com should come first, and if you look for "donation" an .org should come first. it has not a very big importance, but it has some..I'm sure
I doubt the SE's care about ".com" versus ".org" versus ".net" unless the keyword being searched is related to one of those words. I do wonder though if they provide a "boost" to ".edu's" and/or ".gov's" since those tend to be more "official"
not only more "official" but usually not commercial, so SE's would like to place non commercial first, so the commercial would have to pay for sponsored links
I think that there is no differance to search engines like google between ORG and COM. The most important are relevant backlinks and content at sities giving backlinks.
I've never seen any difference between .com and .org or .net either. SEO should be the same regardless.
Hi Ecolatur As with the other replies I don't see there being any major difference in optimizing a .org vs other domain extensions. On the advice front, what phrase(s) are you trying to optimize for? I can get no clear idea from looking at the homepage of your site. It looks like it would be just as hard for the search engines to figure out what the page is about. For the search "tiny hearts foundation" you come up tenth on Google. The number 1 result is www.tinyhearts.org which seems to be a site for the same organisation. Some of the pages on this site contain very similar content which might become a problem. I can't find many links to the site, so if they exist Google doesn't seem to know about them yet so building links will help. If you want to build links to the site, why not look at who links to other similar charities and start there. Hope this helps. Alastair
P.S. As a non-profit (presumably) try and get free submission to the major directories. I think they still do this?
Thanks Alastair and everybody else too for the valuable advice, As Alastair pointed out the other site tinyhearts.org is also of the same organization which soon will re-direct to tinyheartsfoundation.org after the hosting term expires, As for submitting to directories, i am doing it , but as you all know its a daunting task. And for the keywords i am targeting, they are the ones which are listed at the keywords meta tags. Am I doing something wrong. Naturally I cannot put these keywords in random on the site without any meaning, Does any body know of a non-profit link exchange hub Abhilash.
