seo an hour a day book...

I am pretty interested in seo although I have no experience of it. So I went on amazon and bought the book... seo: an hour a day. My problem is the book is kind of based on a business model eg you have an e.commerce site and are trying to drive more traffic to it. My problem is I don't have a site or a business that I want to drive traffic to...

Has anyone actually read this book? And if so would it be worth my while reading it and not following along with it?

    Many thanks

I don't actually think you need a book - just reading the threads at DP and SP will give you loads of tips and advice - no matter what anyone says there is no magic wand but there is a ton of free information to help you out. I suppose a book though makes it much easier to weed out the bad information from the good - as it all should be credible

I would have to ask, why you want to learn SEO? what is your final objective?

    Hi there,
i've got the book and it really is very good - the Web Analytics one is on my 'to buy list' and I've bought the Social Media Marketing one but haven't really gotten into it yet.

Do you think the book is worth reading if I have no example to follow along with. It outlines a 3 month campaign in the book.

    Hi,

i think its not " bad " if you read the book, most of the time books take the educational way to make people understand the idea,

some people like to read from books, they make them understand things step by step, but others like to take the CLEAR POINT from the subject with no too much talking.

So, if you take it only theoretical with no example to follow , the book might be better.

Go spend a hour at barnes nobles pick out some books on seo and review contents and index to see pros and cons of each and open the books inside flip through pages you will find one that appeals to you.

You will learn from all of them all have weaknesses and strengths.

I you don't have a website and are not planning on building a site, I don't see what the point of buying the book is. There is so much free seo info available, just do a search.

There is a mountain of information on this forum alone, you should spend some time reading through some posts... best of all it is free!

I have the book, although it's still lying under my bed. I haven't had time to read it. Check out the reviews on Amazon. I purchased the book just on that basis.

Yes I bought "SEO an hour a day" like three years ago and I dont think it is good at all...
If your knowledge are close to 0 read "SEO for dummies", could sound silly but it is the easiest and simplest to understand, then you can think to buy a more advanced book...

A book is just a book. Maybe you can learn some from them if you treat it seriously. But theroy should be put into practice so that we can know whether it's right or not. My advice is you can learn it by heart and every book has its special value if you try your best to find it. And you'd find a company or other environment to check what you learned from the book after mastering it. Only then can you know it's worth or not.

    Hi there
In reply to Plastickid (and sorry for the delay). Both books really are excellent, one really key feature about the Analytics book to me is the fact the author mentions that all of his personal money from the book is going to some charity which means a great deal personally to him - that kind of thing holds a great deal of weight to me. The one thing about both books is that you can't just 'dip into' them. You need to follow the advice and in order and therefore they are really only as good as your ability to put the work in but there again isn't that really what SEO is all about no matter where the information comes from? No simple fix but just good honest ideas and lots of work to get that through the content and architecture of your website (unless I'm missing something).
    Hope this helps

why not get a blog, write/ make some content on whatever subject interests you and use it to experiment with what you're reading about SEO.

As experienced SEO workers, its easy for us to forget how daunting it is for the beginner with all the terminology, including terminology that is related to other I.T stuff. To learn SEO I think the beginner needs a simple book to set up that framework in their mind.

Then they can look through the forums, and the framework can be rebuilt and pieces of the jigsaw start going together.
