I read so much about how implementing https on your website would have a positive effect on your search engine rankings within Google. My experience to date has been the opposite. We had a website that was generating reasonable traffic and ranked between page one and page two on Google - since we implemented https we have dropped by about 20 positions for each keyword. The main reason is that Google needs to re-index the https version of the website and this causes the issue. It takes a lot longer than expected (we're waiting more than a month now) and it has only indexed 6 of the 100+ pages. Luckily our existing http version of the website is still indexed but our SERPS ranking has really dropped. I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same and if they have any idea how long it might take for Google to re-index the new https version of the website? We're a web design company and most of our clients are asking about implementing https but after seeing the impact it had on our search results my feelings are pretty mixed. Any advice would be great and especially advice from people or agencies who have gone through the process in the past and have real experiences.
How many months has it been since the drop in the SERPS? If its only been a little time, it could be the google dance. As for indexing, you may need to manually index each url again to get them back in the serps.
