G'day All I am trying to get my companies website to #1 in Google for the term "Horse Racing". Over the last year and a bit, I have managed to work my way up to about 4th position (Google AU) however I am needing some further advice, on how I go about moving even higher up. I honestly believe that our website should rightly be #1 for "Horse Racing" as we are the peak governing body for horse racing in Australia. If anyone is able to provide me with any advice, or take a look at the site and let me know what else I can do, it would be much appreciated. The site is www.australianracingboard.com.au Cheers Jake
my personal opinion is that you have a long way to go considering the number 1 position has around 15,000 links and you only have 300. position 2 has a pr6 and you only have a pr3 position 3 has a pr4 and 10,000 links and you are pr3 with only 300 links... looks like you have alot more work to do to participate and get some relevant links, next you need to fix you on page optimisation, you have no onpage optimisation and too much java on your website... it also takes along time to load you need to consider hiring a SEO professional, but this will not be a cheap option as you have so much ground to cover
you have a very competitive term you are targeting. on google au, you got 35 million search result for this term with 450k searches done last month just on google.com.au. to be #1 for this term, you need LOTS of backlinks with horse racing in the anchor text. quality of backlink is also very important so try to get as much relevant contextual backlinks as possible
you need more links to your site, even with them it could take months for you just to climb up that one place
"Horse Racing " is very high competitive term so you need more back links. You need to wait for some time to achieve this and do some Article submission, Blog comments and Bookmarking.
Just offer people to visit your site via the search engine. Visiting a website via search engine will increase the rank of the website. Or, use my guides at dollartorupiah.blogspot.com
you should try target keywords like "horse racing australia" and getting links from com.au sites and directories and put your business in the http://maps.google.com if you have a point of presence other than the website
target your regional keywords " horse racing Australia" " horse racing in Australia" "horse race Australia" etc..
Build relevant backlinks to your site. Relevant backlinks nowadays has been proven to be able to beat those higher PR sites.
In theory you should earn more links with variations of keywords in it (anchor text). In practise, its time to plan a link baiting/building campaign or hire a pro SEO to do that for you.
Well you would need to build more links from relevant sites and by different ways like blogs, articles etc and you can also stress more on regional keywords..
Why are there so many outgoing links from home page? are the with Nofollow Tag? if not, then maybe its good to do so
Since you are the governing body for horse racing, I would consider calling any 'partners' or those who you have affliations withand get them to link to you, no doubt they will also have'decent' sites with good PR and credibility. I can only re-iterate what the posters above me have said in that you need to build more 'clever' links from authority sites which will certainly help you. Be prepared for a long wit though as it will take time. SEO rankings are like maturing cheese or a fine wine so don't expect this to happen overnight or even weeks. I would also look at longer tail keywords as horse racing is quite a generic term which doesn't tend to convert well (if you're selling something that is). Good luck & all the best Zaheer
Thanks for all the advice guys. I have started by trying to get some links placed on the home page, of partner sites, that are quite popular. Re No Follow links, how do i make the links on the home page page, no follow? What is the code for this?
you must formulate a plan. Australian directories directories australian websites bookmarking sites article sites press releases... forums posting australian forums make a plan and execute it.
