SEO advice needed (Putting my a blog on my .net)

I noticed some of my competitors using multiple websites and blogs to help with SEO and redirecting links and traffic back to there E-commerce sites, and I'm wondering for SEO sake would setting up a blog on my .net domain be beneficial for me in reguards to SEO or would it hurt my main E-commerce site in anyway.

I have another hosting plan I'm not using and I really want to keep Wordpress off my main server if all possible.

    Thanks in advance

It is good to have your blog on your .net/blog site.

It is difficult to start up a new site from ground zero level compared to adding from already established site.

Plus, managing two different domains (one for blog and the other for domain) will just add more workload to you as you need to add more contents, backlinks, etc for both sites.

It will give a boost at your SEO stats if your particular site is established and have build up a bit in terms of PR or backlinks.

If you have an store for example in store.com I should build a wordpress blog in store.com/blog folder. This blog would be full of articles about your store niche and in the articles I would build links to the store products. For example, if you are selling cameras You will have a post like How to choose the best camera? Inside that post there is a link as:

    If you want to <a href=store.com/linktoasonycamera>buy a sony camera</a>
    Code (markup):
That way you are optimizing that product page for the keyword buy a sony camera.
On the store site just put a link to you blog in the footer.
Search engines love content and through the blog you will give them a lot.

If you put a blog in a external domain where you send baclinks to your site will be suspicious for search engines. You have to be sure they don't find both site are yours and they aren't hosted in the same site with the same IP.

Thank you, I think this was the answer I was looking for but I didn't phrase it correctly in my original post. Thanks again for the advice.
