Can you get into legal trouble by sending messages on myspace using automated tools? I wanna send a message to 4000 or so people, but I'm a little worried that I could get in trouble. I wouldn't mind getting banned, as long as there are no legal implications.
I don't think so as long as the message goes to your myspace friends. There thousand of people using those auto sender program and never heard getting trouble.
Not sure with the new owners but yes myspace will sue and press charges against you. They take it very seriously and unless you want to get served I'd suggest you avoid it.
Why in the world would you want to spam your friends? Why instead, wouldn't you put up a comprehensive text for them to read and be interested in. That would greatly help and wouldn't be considered as spam.
If in doubt, read the ToS It would have to be a very lucrative message to make it worth 4,000 x $50. If you want to send a message to 1,000s of people, make that many friends and send out a bulletin.
If caught they will take legal action. From myspace to ?: Myspace about bots: "This program constitutes an automated script program which, because it interferes with the MySpace servers and detrimentally affects the ability of the site to function, is expressly prohibited by Section 8 of the Terms of Service Agreement between MySpace and its users."
I wouldn't be too worried, as long as your account contains no real information about yourself. Bulletins are always being sold to 100k+ friends from a single account.
If I'm understanding this right, bulletins should be sent, and you should stay away from sending bulk messages? I heard that bulletins have a low conversion rate, and that bulk messages are better, but after reading this I'll stick with the bulletins.
I think you should just stick to bullettin. Or just do commenting to their profile. Much more better than send a pmed.
But if they are your friends, wouldn't a message be allowed? Do you think >>>unsolicited email or other unsolicited communication you send through the MySpace Services<<< applies to your friend list?
I think this can be profitable in the video game niche what do you guys think? interspersing content with ads. Is anyone doing this?
no legal trouble but you might get booted off myspace and with 4000 freinds its a valuable tool you have there just do a post
you'll either get booted, or they may simply disable your link. I had an affiliate program running almost two years ago and a couple of my affiliates posted the link all over myspce. That resulted in my domain getting banned. That really hurt business, because I was working within the system and it was ruined by a few cowboys who thought they had a way to buck the system. If your domain is banned from MySpace you'll never get if back on there. You can cry, beg and plead, but they will NEVER give your link the green light again. They don't forgive.
