sending mail list?

I want to send emails to 25k two times a week!

My plan was to get hostgator/cpanel/roundcube and on the hostgator plan send 500 emails pre hour!

Now is there anyway to send more in a safe way? What would be the best hostgator plan? Or is there another better way that isn't silly money?

Actually, sending faster and more is not always better. Some places like comcast will just reject messages.

The best thing to do is to make sure your authentication is set up correctly.

You can do that by following the instructions here: http://unlocktheinbox.com/resources/emailauthentication/

The next thing is to get white-listed at major ISP's you'll have to apply for whitelisting.

Take a look at Comcast Restrictions below

    • Comcast allows 25 simultaneous connections per sending IP address.
Comcast allows 100 recipients per message.
Comcast allows a throttle rate based on your sender reputation and authentication

Thanks for this! This is a really good answer. I will go do it now! I brought the mail list off a good company and i hope it isn't to hard to white list!

How do companys like amazon/facebook ect send massive emails out each week? Do they just use a massive sever and get it all white listed?

They have dedicated mail servers, you can learn a lot from their headers and how they are set up in DNS.

Take "Groupon" for example, this company relies on sending email.

    Here's part of their headers.

    X-SmarterMail-Spam: SpamAssassin -20 [raw: -10], SPF_Pass, DK_None, DKIM_Pass, HostKarma - Whitelist
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: Content analysis details: (-10.2 points, 5.0 required)
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: pts rule name description
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: ---- ---------------------- --------------------------------------------------
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -3.0 RCVD_IN_RP_CERTIFIED RBL: Sender is in Return Path Certified (trusted
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: relay)
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [Return Path SenderScore Certified {formerly]
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [Bonded Sender} - <http://www.senderscorecertified.com>]
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -2.0 RCVD_IN_RP_SAFE RBL: Sender is in Return Path Safe (trusted relay)
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [Return Path SenderScore Safe List (formerly]
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [Habeas Safelist) - <http://www.senderscorecertified.com>]
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -0.1 RCVD_IN_HOSTKARMA_W RBL: HostKarma: relay in white list (first pass)
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [50.115.211.239 listed in hostkarma.junkemailfilter.com]
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -1.2 RP_MATCHES_RCVD Envelope sender domain matches handover relay domain
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: 0.0 DIET_1 BODY: Lose Weight Spam
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: 0.0 HTML_IMAGE_RATIO_06 BODY: HTML has a low ratio of text to image area
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -1.9 BAYES_00 BODY: Bayes spam probability is 0 to 1%
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: [score: 0.0000]
X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: 0.0 HTML_MESSAGE BODY: HTML included in message
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: 0.0 LOTS_OF_MONEY Huge... sums of money
    X-SmarterMail-SpamDetail: -2.0 RCVD_IN_HOSTKARMA_WL RBL: HostKarma: unique whitelisted
    X-SmarterMail-TotalSpamWeight: -28
    Code (markup):
    1) As you can see they have SDF set up and DKIM set up (Two authentication protocols)
    2) They are white-listed in HostKarma.
    3) They are in Return Path as a Save Sender and Verified (You pay big $$ for that)
    4) They probably have relationships set up with every major ESP provider to be whitelisted and they probably pay for it.

Sending email is an art form, you have to know what you're doing, that's why a lot of people use a 3rd party provider to send mail. (Some 3rd party do it right, others don't)

Now, you bought a list and you want to blast out emails, sure I can understand that, you're an entrepreneur and you want to make money. Nothing is wrong with that.

    Now if you were smart,

    1) you will use a 3rd party to send the emails (with all relationships in place) cost money, I know..
    2) You will attempt to do it yourself, because you want to save $$, but in order to do it right you need to find a newslist mailer program, that does it right.

For instance "Phplist", you can configure the trottle rates, don't send more then X emails to the same domain in X time. So phplist will sending out and it will trottle down the sending to specific domains

The next thing is you, bought a list, god knows what names are in that list, their can be Spam Traps, etc. You send an email to a spam trap, then you might get blacklisted. It's a dangerous game. Validate that mailing list...

Here's a place to test it. http://unlocktheinbox.com/bulkemailvalidator/ - If you create a free account you get 1,000 free validations a month. It resets on the first of the month, or you can just pay to have all of them validated. Keep in mind, you will get a lot of emails you can't validate, but you will weed out a bunch of bad ones.

You also need to sign up for feedback loops and remove people from your email list that mark your emails as spam.. Read about that here. http://unlocktheinbox.com/resources/feedbackloops/

There's a lot to sending mail and doing it right, it's not easy it takes dedication. Even if you send with a third party, you have to make sure you remove all the spammy keywords. You can test that here..

    http://unlocktheinbox.com/spamscore/

You also need to make sure you're not on public blacklist and be alerted if you show up on one, set up some monitoring, it's free for a small number of domains.

    http://unlocktheinbox.com/services/blacklistsmonitoring/

How do I know all this?

Because I own unlocktheinbox.com - It's the one stop shop to teach you everything on sending emails.

If you're going to use hostgator get a vps... they have a lot of restrictions on sending mail.

"Any mailing list larger than 5,000 addresses will require a dedicated server or VPS hosting solution from us. Note: Dividing one large list into smaller lists to get below this limit is not allowed."

If you really want to make money with emails - staying legal and not sending spam is the long-term way to do it. This means that you have to build your own permission based list. Yes - it takes longer than merely buying a 100K list - but far more profitable - and you won't be shut down or face possible legal actions for spamming.
