There are a lot of services like you stated above.

Search on the google with these keywords : "send sms online"

    Hi,

I use my Yahoo Messenger to send and receive SMS text messages when my phone is down. It's very simple and it's free.

At the menu bar at the top of the messenger just click actions then in the list click send SMS text.

    Pretty simple!

    Hope that helps!

Here in my country, Yahoo Messenger is not allowing us to send SMS. However, a very good company is offering such free service -- www.chikka.com.

Gmail also features the ability to send & receive SMS messages :) You have to go under Settings and then inside the Labs area to do it

I googled it to find out how, but it's not difficult at all
