*It was 100-200 million in the original legislation, now it seems like 66-120 milllion...66 being the most likely.

**Not necessarily good news; it just decreases the level of insanity. I'm hoping
the House just boots the ideas to the side. I'd rather have nothing than something extremely crazy within the mixture.

(Update: On Tuesday, May 16, the Senate passed Sen. Jeff Bingaman's (D-NM) amendment to S. 2611 that significantly reduced the number of legal immigrants who could enter under the bill's "guest worker" program. As a result of this change, our estimate of the number of legal immigrants who would enter the country or would gain legal status under S. 2611 falls from 103 million to around 66 million over the next 20 years.)

*These people make me sick. I wonder why they got the wrong Kennedy...the missed the worst of them, and yet his dumb big drunk (leave a woman in the lake) head still exists...even with his loser son. Why do people vote for this man?

That had been overwhelmingly rejected by the Democrats who then asked Cornyn and Kyl to negotiate a compromise with Kennedy. The two sides agreed—the Republicans reluctantly—that a criminal would now be eligible for amnesty and citizenship if he had committed only one felony or three misdemeanors except that he could commit any number of immigration-related felonies or misdemeanors and still pass muster. This smelly little compromise passed 99-0.

Sowell had a great commentary about the immigration issue today.

Read the other day that 10% of the mexican population is here in this country. Astonishing.

Message three of this thread details a break in one house Republicans view...it's basically a plan to offer guest-working without amnesty. This guy may run for president...seem like the repubs are going to have little winning choices in 2008...but what do I know!? Maybe fear of Hillary is stronger than fear of Rhino.

The United States is being merged into the American Union: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_American_Union

All of you people who laugh at the conspiracy theorists, you won't be laughing soon. The guest worker program IS amnesty. It will allow unlimited skilled and unskilled workers into the US. Eventually we will be under the "Amero" instead of the dollar, and once Asian and Africa are merged, the New World Order will form. European Union + African Union+ American Union+ Asian Union = New World Order.

Well, according to the Senate and Mexico, they want the illegals here to have the right to vote in both countries....so we might as well be one country if there's a right to vote in both countries.

No sane person would/should want that.
