I am scared to getting my pants wet, cause i have never ever given a seminar on anything and now i have to give on seo. So i would really really appericate help from all of you if anyone of you'll have ever given or attented a seminar on seo just give me hints and tips on what i should do. Also i want to prepare a ppt so help over there also is needed. I only got one week to prepare so please help me out.
I give seminars, but not on SEO. But it does not matter what subject it is anyway. Get yourself a camcorder to record yourself during a rehearsal. Play it back to see how you have done. What you see is what they will see. Also, put yourself in a mental state that you are talking to a bunch of old friends, who are asking you for advice. Don't try to impress. Don't think about how you are forming your words, how you look, how you sound... Be relaxed, just like you are at home, talking to your friends.
Thanks rose i liked your idea of camcorder i'll surely try it out, so far the best advice i've got till now. I am going to lecture to college students so hopefully i don't screw up.
I think the easiest topic to give seminar is SEO. If you don;t know much about SEO then you need to read it over internet or read some e-books. It depends on the time you are given to give seminar on this topic. You should not get into details for all of the topics like link building, social media etc but make sure that your points are easily understandable.
I have done some seminars in the past and one key thing I have found is if you can make them laugh they will instantly like you and pay attention to what you are saying. Good luck! PS; this works when picking up women also
I agree with HomeComputerGames above, make people laugh during the first few minutes, and you will hold their attention for longer I would think a joke relating to how many 'experts' there are in the seo world, and how many spam emails get sent or something (MOST people with a website have had them at some point) - try to work a decent funny comment or something in, and try it out on others first. Video yourself like someone else said - and if you don't have a camcorder, maybe even a webcam will do?! Also try it in front of friends too (It may make your feel silly, but it will be worth it!).
I hate SEO seminars personally, they over-complicate everything. If you want to get ready just tape yourself and watch.
When preparing your talk and power point you should ask yourself two simple question. 1) What do I want? 2) Why do I want it? Yes you want to prepare a SEO speech but what spefically do want to the speech to be on about. Since I am sure you have a time limit and you could cover a hours worth of stuff you need to get specific. Then ask why you have chosen to cover those topics. Think of the topics that will add the most value to the audience and stick to to those points. As far as the confidence thing I would wear an outfit that makes you feel very confident you dont have one go get a new one. I always carry at least $300 dollars cash in my pocket when doing a speech. Carrying around money makes me feel important and I believe it attracts people to you due to that new level of confidence you have. Remember you are in the power position since you are on stage giving the speech and no one can take that power from you unless you let them. You are in the driver seat of how you should feel so visualize yourself up there before you go up and how you would like to look and sound and just do it. Last just relax and have fun, be yourself, they are just people down there if they dont like what you have to say screw them who cares nothing bad at all can come from doing a speech. Face the fear and you will see it disappear.
