Selling Valuable Websites

We have all heard the stories of websites that sell for K'Zillions of dollars.

I often see domain auction sites and domain sellers sites with HUGE numbers on selling prices, but where is the happy medium?

If websites are selling for millions of dollars, I've got some sites that should buy me a decent home someplace warm and tropical, but where do you sell?

Has anyone ever actually knew someone personally that sold a website for BIG money or is this the fairytail webmasters do so well at following?

Recently I have been so busy, that I started giving away some sites that were just so off topic for me, there wasn't any reason to keep them....

Most of them all had pagerank and age behind them. Some were even DMOZ listed, but what did I care, I didn't even really want them to begin with. There just isn't enough time for all of them.

This left me with mostly two catagories of web properties...

    1 - the stuff I live for
2 - the stuff I just don't want to get rid of...

Now if I could find a real company that buys websites, I might be able to make my life even easier by selling the stuff I just don't want to get rid of...
But I am not selling them cheap...

So does anyone know of a major company or something that buys websites based on age, pagerank, backlinks, etc.?

It's not a fairy tale, if you have stats proving the advantage a major company would have from purchasing your site, you can sell it high

What is a website but traffic and cash flow?

If you have low totals on both of those the only value is that of the domain.

Can you show any traffic and cash flow on any of these sites? If so maybe you can sell them for 10 times cash flow.

Show cash flow. I tried for two years to sell a good domain I had that registered early 1997 and never dropped. Was a decent domain. I couldn't give it away though. So I put it on PPC for a few months and it started earning $100 a month just parked. Sold it for over 1k a few months later.

Traffic is good, but if the traffic converts to revenue, you can find buyers ready to spend any level of money.

I think most of the big sales are sought-out rather than advertised.

If memory serves, the domain, www.whatismydomain.com, recently sold on eBay for about $400K. Currently the site is down, perhaps in the process of being transferred? I dunno. The traffic was the big factor - it was massive - about 1.2million hits a week or something.

This is true. When I was selling several smaller (under $1k) sites I wasn't using, I tried putting them on afternic, pool, etc.. Then someone emailed me at my contact email addy saying they wanted to buy the domain in my email address! That was a $30k deal and wasn't even trying to sell it. :D

Traffic on your site is the major scale of measurement of your domain.
